Our research has led us to conclude that the demand for providing breast cancer survivorship care is greater than the services available. In 2009, Back in the Swing teamed up with the Breast Cancer Survivorship Center at University of Kansas Cancer Center to conduct a needs assessment survey of oncology nurses around the country regarding breast cancer survivorship health care.

When asked how important is it for oncology nurses to develop skills to help patients manage survivorship issues, a resounding 83% responded "very important". Yet, only 13% considered themselves "very skilled" in this area of care. Back in the Swing is committed to growing this list of providers through supporting the development of online training modules in the areas of post-treatment breast cancer survivorship care identified as the greatest need.
